US President Joe Biden has said he is developing comprehensive initiatives making it difficult for Russian President Vladimir Putin to invade Ukraine, adding that he does not accept Moscow’s “red lines”, Reuters reports. Moscow, for its part, accuses Ukraine and the United States of destabilizing behavior and says Kiev may be preparing for its own offensive in eastern Ukraine, which Ukrainian authorities deny.
“I am creating the most comprehensive and significant set of initiatives that I think will make it very, very difficult for Mr Putin to do what people are worried he will do,” Biden said, without elaborating.
Before leaving for Camp David late Friday, Biden told reporters: “We have been aware of Russia’s actions for a long time and I expect to have a long conversation with Putin.”
“I do not accept anyone’s red lines,” the US president said in response to Russia’s demands.
US and Ukrainian officials have warned again this week that tough economic sanctions against Russia are possible.
