Playing away from home, Bahia beat the Chapecoense by the score of 2-0, this Sunday (4). With a good performance by Gilberto, who entered the second stage and opened the scoring – Rodriguinho scored the second goal -, the team from Bahia won at Arena Condá for the first time in its history.
With the victory, Bahia scored another three points and reached 14 in the Brasileirão 2021. The Bahian team temporarily occupies fifth place in the table, as it can be overtaken by Atlético-MG, Flamengo and Junvetude until the end of this round. Chapecoense, on the other hand, still without winning in the championship, has four points and is in the relegation zone, in 19th.
The two teams return to the field for the Brasileirão in the middle of the week. On Wednesday (7), Bahia plays against Juventude in Pituaçu, while Chapecoense receives the Corinthians on the next day.
Bahia starts with a lot of possession
In the first stage, Bahia had a lot of ball possession, exchanging passes in the intermediate and practically giving no chances for Chapecoense to arrive in danger.
During most of the first half, however, the Bahia team’s possession of the ball was not reflected in clear chances of goal. Jair Ventura’s team scored with a low line, giving Bahia very little space to circulate the ball near João Paulo’s goal.
Chapecoense does not scare
Playing at home, Chapecoense had a hard time creating chances. The best plays of Jair Ventura’s team came only on set pieces. With the ball rolling, the team was hardly in danger.
Bahia grows at the end of the first stage
In the final part of the first half, Bahia started to take more danger to Chape. Playing with more speed in midfield and on the sides, the team had more intensity in the attack and improved.
With difficulty entering the area, the tricolor team started to take risks from outside the area, taking danger in shots from Rodriguinho and Daniel. Thonny Anderson and Maycon Douglas also had chances
Gilberto enters and makes
The second stage started out similar to the first stage. At 18 minutes, Gilberto came in to change the game’s history.
A few minutes after entering, the forward, on, took advantage of the ball badly hit by Derlan and concluded for the goal. The kick came out strong, in the corner, with no chance for defense. It was the seventh goal by the striker, top scorer in the championship.
rodriguinho expands
In the next move, good play by Nino Paraíba on the right side. The full-back went to the end line, crossed to Gilberto, who couldn’t reach. The ball fell to Rodriguinho in the middle of the area, who scored the second and sealed the victory of the Bahian team.
VAR takes action
Chape managed to decrease in the 31st minute of the second stage. The goal could change the game’s history, but the VAR took action. In yet another confusing moment of video arbitration in the country, the referee Edina Alves was called to analyze the move and ended up marking offside after concluding that there was interference from the player who was ahead in the free kick.
