With a fresh driver’s license, Kamila Janovičová had to play an experienced driver in the film Together

The film Together is the story of a devoted mother of two adult children, one of whom has autism and the other of whom has struggled with attention deficit disorder all his life.

“To put it bluntly, I’m the healthy one of the siblings and thus pushed aside by my mother because she takes care of her sick son,” Janovičová, whose mother was played by Veronika Žilková in the film, described her role.

Kamila Janovičová presented the new film together at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival together with others.

The role of the son with autism went to the actor Štěpán Kozub, who is better known for his comedic roles. Janovičová mentioned that thanks to his presence, the shooting took place in a cheerful spirit.

“We mostly enjoyed improvisation, for example when Štěpán wanted to drive in the car, and I didn’t want to let him because he didn’t have a driver’s license and he would have destroyed my car. In the end, we got on, we played together and imagined how we were knocking people over and I gave him points for that,” Janovičová described the experience.

She was given an expensive car to drive by the filmmakers for the filming, but at the time she was still in the ranks of new and inexperienced drivers. “When we started filming, I had my driver’s license for three days,” she explained.

“They gave me a Bavarian, sat Veronika Žilková next to me and put a camera on my hood. I was driving in full traffic in Prague and I had to look like a dude, because I drive a Bavarian every day,” added Janovičová, adding that she managed to manage similar drives without a single scratch on the car.

During Thursday’s presentation of the film in Karlovy Vary, the actress also regretted that, unlike her film brother, she did not get to be in the environment of real people with autism.

Štěpán also visited the institution and visited a few people. In retrospect, I thought it was a shame that I didn’t have the opportunity, because I would have been interested too. But because Štěpán told me about it, I was able to imagine it,” she told Novinkám.

The film Together, which was adapted to the screen by David Laňka and Martin Müller from the play by French playwright Fabio Marra, will be released in cinemas at the end of September this year. In other roles, for example, Marek Němec, Václav Kopta, Martina Babišová, Kristýna Podzimková will appear in it, and the French author of the original will also appear in a small role.
