Samsung unveiled the 200-megapixel ISCOCELL HP1 camera sensor last September, but we still haven’t seen a device with this high-resolution sensor. However, the first phone to feature the new camera may arrive soon, and Samsung has just released a video demonstrating its capabilities.
Although Samsung has developed and manufactured the sensor, the first 200 MP camera said it will most likely be a Motorola handset that will debut in July. Of course, this is even the merit of Samsung, and they are proud of it, so they recently made an interesting demonstration.
A photo of a cat was shot with a 200 MP ISOCELL HP1 sensor (in special conditions) and then a 28 x 22 meter (!) Billboard was made using the photo. The whole process is shown in a short video:
Of course, all this is more of a hobbyist, obviously a smartphone is not suitable for professional photography due to its size, it can have any number of megapixel sensors. In addition, 200 MP mobiles will merge pixels by default, allowing them to shoot 12.5 MP photos by default (16 merge) or 50 MP images (4 merge).
It will also be possible to take advantage of full resolution, but this may result in a poorer end result in many ways, as several important image enhancement functions are not available for such sensors. So there will be no real benefit in being able to take 200 MP photos.
