With a bicycle kick under water (and “dare to jump”): Tessa Wullaert stars in video for GRLPWR’s own swimwear

With 35 goals and 18 assists, the title and possibly the cup, Tessa Wullaert can once again look back on a phenomenal season at Anderlecht. But the Red Flame also shines next to the football field.

Wullaert has been working on GRLPWR for a long time, her own project to get girls to play soccer. She also gives football internships herself. GRLPWR already had its own branding, with a bright pink color on balls, t-shirts, jerseys, sweaters…

“Chic and sporty”

And now there’s the swimwear. Wullaert teamed up with Zalando and the Belgian company La Michaux to develop bikinis and swimsuits in the GRLPWR style. Wullaert drew the result herself for the promotional video, after which she played football and boxed in a swimming pool.

“With GRLPWR, football internships have been our focus so far, but this year I wanted to focus on merchandising,” said Wullaert after training towards the cup final (May 14). “When I was younger I always bought things with girl power because I thought that was cool. So I started thinking: what do I want to wear of my own brand? Ah, bikinis. I then put the question to Sarah from La Michaux, from which I myself have bikinis, and that was immediately right. We are now ten months later and the result is impressive, I think. The main thing was that everything is multifunctional. For example, I always exercise when travelling. You can do that in the bikinis, where everything stays in place. And under the bathing suit you can perfectly put on shorts. It is a collection that is chic and sporty.”

Shooting the promo video was quite a challenge. “We had a great cameraman (Tommy Vuylsteke, ed.)”, says Wullaert, who works with GRLPWR on a daily basis. “But it was super tiring. I was awake at 6:30 am, at 8:00 am I was doing the make-up and from 9:00 am we started spinning in two different pools. We only finished around 5.30 pm and after that I still had to start training, because two days later we played the championship game against OHL. And so underwater… Keeping your facial expression neutral is not that easy, but it was not uncomfortable for me. The MIAs (where she awarded a prize, ed.) were much more than that. Now we have to wait and see. I don’t know what my bikini market is. The stages are going well, the balls are too… But sometimes you have to dare to jump and I did that.”
