“We live on the reserves,” comments Svenja Preuss vom „City Partner Hotel Alter Speicher“In the old town of Wismar, the current situation in the second corona lockdown. The reserves were actually intended for renovation work on the venerable building ensemble. “I know colleagues use the time for such work, but whatever capital we have left with the company for now. But at some point our reserves will also be used up. “
Few business travelers
A few of its 75 rooms are occupied by business travelers. Most of the 20 specialists are on short-time work, the house is largely in the hands of the trainees. “Because in Wismar many of the big hotels are completely closed, we remain business travelers, ”she says.
In December, for example, it was assembly workers. “But that’s not enough to fill you up, there are so many business travelers in Wismar Not. First of all, it is about safeguarding the company and the jobs. “
Complicated help
So far, the company has not received any government aid. Sitting straight Svenja Preuss on the application for November aid, your tax advisor has prepared the documents accordingly. “I didn’t understand what’s in there, but I have to understand to sign it,” shakes Svenja Preuss the head.
The entrepreneur is also the first chairwoman of the Dehoga regional association Hanseatic City Wismar and environment. She therefore knows that competitors took out loans in the first lockdown in order to survive. “Of course they are now considering whether to continue taking out loans. There will be companies that go swimming, ”she is certain. “The whole situation is dramatic.”
Lack of planning security
What is missing is any planning security. “Even if we are told clearly that nothing will work until March. But this little bit of planning, always for 14 days, is difficult in the industry! “
Normally January is used to process the bookings for the year. Svenja Preuss has no bookings. “The year 2021 has been completely empty for us so far,” she says. She is sure that guests would come if they were allowed to – at short notice as so-called “walk ins”, as spontaneous bookers and not planned months in advance.
Hope for March
She hopes the season will start in March. Hope is also a concern: “If the tourist locks for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania open, we will hardly be able to answer the inquiries. “
