Wisla Krakow. Conclusions after the “White Star” match in Niepołomice

Wisła Kraków lost the first match in 2023. After a series of seven victories came a defeat in Niepołomice. And this match showed that there is still a lot of work ahead of “White Star” to achieve the goal of promotion to the top league this season. We present the conclusions of the “White Star” expedition to Niepołomice.

INTERRUPTED SERIES, WHAT IT HAD TO HAPPEN ONCE
Every streak has an end. This Wisla ended in Niepołomice, where after seven consecutive wins came the first defeat. Did it have to happen? Well, no, because from the game Wisła could at least draw this match. In football, sometimes it’s the little things that count, including a little bit of luck. It was on Saturday near the Forest, although let’s not forget that the hosts also had a few situations that could close the match. Wojciech Matusik

EVERYONE KNOWS BUT…
Before leaving for Niepołomice, we talked to several people from Wisła Kraków, also from the coaching staff. Everyone predicted exactly what would happen to the “White Star” in the clash with the Forest. The rival’s way of playing, the match’s envelope, the condition of the pitch, which – let’s be honest – was dramatic for the conditions of the first league. This match looked in the vast majority of aspects exactly as predicted at Reymont. It’s just that the Vistulans knew, but they didn’t adapt to the conditions. And it’s really hard to blame the rival from Wisła’s perspective that he is doing his best to make the conditions favorable to him when playing at home. Because with Niepołomice, it’s a bit like paraphrasing a saying about cold football evenings in Stoke… You have to survive it, you have to adapt. This pictorial comparison was suggested to the author of these conclusions after the final whistle … Rafał Boguski. And let’s add the voice of Tomasz Tułacz, the coach of the Forest, because he also referred to the whole matter to some extent: – I don’t care too much that the pitch is too narrow for someone, the spotlights are too weak or too strong. We focus on ourselves and do not look at subordinating ourselves to things that will make it difficult for the opponents in an unsportsmanlike way. We implement all the forms and means that are allowed. Well, nothing more, nothing less…

NOBODY DEFENDED THE VISTULA TO PLAY FAST FROM THE BEGINNING
Two questions in this thread. Was Wisła able to press Puszcza in the second half? Could Wisła play better in the first part? The answer to both questions is affirmative. The main question, however, remains why the crackers actually slept through the first half? It’s not even about the circumstances in which they conceded goals. It’s more about the fact that in the offensive they didn’t answer their rivals with practically nothing specific. They simply played far too slowly to dismantle the good organization of the game in defense of the Forest. Wojciech Matusik

STAIRS, STAIRS, STAIRS, BUT ALSO MOTIVATION
After seven victories in a row, many warned Wisła players that the stairs were just beginning. Because only now are the matches with the top 1 league ahead of them. They failed the first such test, but who knows if, paradoxically, it will not help them mentally in the next matches. The Cracovians really took this defeat hard. It was enough to exchange a few sentences after the final whistle with Luis Fernandez or Igor Łasicki. As if after the post-match shower, as if already several dozen minutes after the final whistle, and even the fury that they lost this match was beating straight out of them. This is not a message that although the stairs and matches with the top of the first league have started, the players of the “White Star” will lack motivation. On the contrary – it looks like it will be even bigger.

MISSED OPPORTUNITY
Wisła could have jumped to the second place in the table after the match with Puszcza Puszcza. This would happen if she won in Niepołomice. The defeat means that the Cracovians remain in the play-off zone. They just missed their chance.

IT’S GOOD TO HAVE A SHORT BREAK
Anger after the defeat in Niepołomice is best transferred from Wisła’s perspective to the next meeting. And the Cracovians will play on Friday with Stal Rzeszów at Reymonta Street. Tickets sold out. Steel defeated Zagłębie Sosnowiec 6:0. An interesting show is coming…

THE FANS APPRECIATED THE FIGHT
Wisła lost in Niepołomice, but it’s hard to say that the fans of the “White Star” have great grudges against their players. In Niepołomice there was more support, thanks for the fight to the end than complaints. Most comments on the Internet are maintained in a similar spirit. The fan sees his own and even if the team plays less well, he will appreciate the commitment. And this cannot be denied to the Wisła players until the final whistle.

ZDENEK ONDRASKA IS BACK, THE COMPETITION INCREASE
Zdenek Ondrasek returned to the game in Niepołomice. He hasn’t shown anything great on the pitch yet, but it’s safe to assume that he will increase the competition in attack. At the end of the games, the Czech Republic can still do its thing… Wojciech Matusik
