The moon surprised scientists. This discovery could change everything. There are great challenges ahead of us, but also great opportunities offered by the extraction of oxygen from our natural satellite.
Oxygen on the Moon and in huge deposits? It seems impossible. The atmosphere there consists mainly of hydrogen, neon and argon. So where’s the oxygen? It turns out to be part of the regolith.
Regolith is a loose rock that resides on the lunar surface. As we read on the pages of kosmonauta.net, it consists of 98 percent of seven elements. These are oxygen, silicon, iron, calcium, titanium, aluminum, and magnesium. The remaining 1.3 percent are other elements. Of all those listed, oxygen makes up about 40 percent of the regolith composition.
