Winterthur plans new library strategy

As the city of Winterthur reports, the 2026 strategy has been approved. The libraries are thus continuing their commitment to facilitated access to knowledge.

The Winterthur City Council has approved the new library strategy for 2026. The aim of the strategy is to improve access to knowledge, information and culture for all citizens and to position Winterthur as an innovative service provider. Winterthur’s libraries are already important contact points for obtaining information, promoting language and reading skills and digital application skills.

Their commitment goes far beyond lending media: they function as lively meeting places and offer a wide range of programs for imparting knowledge. The aim is to continue to inspire, inform and bring people together in the future.

New fields of action

The strategy focuses on three key areas of action: participation and encounters, contemporary knowledge transfer, and cooperation and networking. The Winterthur libraries are thus responding specifically to the diverse social challenges and placing value on sustainable cooperation and partnerships, especially with the city’s schools.

The new library strategy will serve as a guide until 2026. The measures will be implemented within the framework of the annual targets. From 2026, the strategy will be synchronized with the next municipal legislative program. This will ensure that the libraries continue to develop in harmony with other municipal departments.

Positive effects

The aim of the library strategy is to improve the quality of life in all districts of Winterthur. The libraries want to function as open meeting places that provide peace, retreat, inspiration, creativity, encounters, exchange and social participation. The Winterthur Libraries Strategy 2026 can be downloaded from the Winterthur Libraries website.
