“In Winterthur it would be pleasantly cool now,” says Maria Rigaki on the phone and laughs. The president of the Greek Parents’ Association in Winterthur is currently in Thessaloniki on vacation. And suffers. “During the last few days it has always been over 40 degrees,” says Rigaki. At night, the temperature never drops below 30 degrees. “You can’t stand it without the air conditioning.”
Either one is only in the house or on the beach during the day. In any case, it is impossible to stay in the city center with such unusually high temperatures. Rigaki says she has already experienced a lot when it comes to heat waves. But that is really extreme because of the duration.
