As the city of Winterthur reports, nearly 2,000 children and young people attend an additional sports lesson. The capacity limit for indoor courses has been reached.
A.D
Three physical education classes are compulsory in primary schools throughout Switzerland.
In Winterthur, all students can also voluntarily register for a fourth lesson.
Or directly at your school, as long as it is one of the eleven schools that offer their students the so-called “daytime sports school” courses free of charge.
Or through the Office of Sport, which advertises a wide range of economic courses for the entire city every semester.
Children with disabilities are integrated
Participation in a voluntary school sports course is low-threshold and possible for everyone, no matter how athletic a child is. Children with disabilities are also included.
While most of the “Sports Day School” courses are multi-sports, there is a wide variety of sports to choose from in the school’s sports courses.
From ball sports to gymnastics and martial arts to freestyle courses in the “Skills Park”.
Parents are individually recommended special remedial courses for children with motor weakness, overweight or athletic talent, as well as courses for unstable swimmers.
An increasing number of students also guarantees the record number of participants
The sports courses of the voluntary schools have been actively used for years. But the number of enrollments has never been as high as this school year.
A total of almost 2000 children and young people are enrolled in a course (1021 in city courses, 227 in remedial courses and 713 in “daytime sports in schools” courses).
The record of participation is explained not only by the great interest shown by schoolchildren, but also by the growing number of pupils.
The pupils were also able to enroll in several courses for a year. Currently about 90 have used it.
More and more small children are attending courses
It is evident that the age of the participants has changed.
More and more kindergarten and primary school children are attending courses, while demand at the secondary school level has declined in recent years.
At the same time, clubs also offer more training for this age group.
Bottlenecks in the occupation of sports halls
Together with the use of after-school sports halls, the great need leads to bottlenecks in employment between the end of classes and 6 pm.
Therefore, the capacity limit for school sports courses in sports halls has been reached.
In the future, an extension of the offer will only be possible with outdoor courses (such as mountain biking, boot camp or running training).
