Winterthur gets darker at night – TOP ONLINE

In a response to a postulate a year ago, the city of Winterthur announced that it would take measures to optimize public lighting. Now the city council has announced the specific measures.

“With immediate effect, the city will keep the public lighting on for longer at night,” says City Councilor Stefan Fritschi. “Or we switch off every second lamp for a long time at night.” In addition, landmarks should be illuminated for less time.

Why the city wants to reduce light emissions in the city of Winterthur – explains Stefan Fritschi in the article by RADIO TOP:

The parties from the municipal council generally agree to this

GLP municipal councilor Markus Nater has submitted the proposal. It’s a first step for him. “But you also have to look at events to see whether it is necessary to leave the light on until 11 p.m. or whether you can reduce it or even switch it off completely,” explains Markus Nater. For the animals and the environment, however, it is a first step in the right direction. The SVP also agrees. But for them it is important that the light is reduced where it is right. “The city council should make sure that, for example, the light at the train station is not reduced,” says Michael Gross, SVP municipal council. There are still often places in the city where light gives people a sense of security. It therefore demands that the city leave the public street lights fully bright even at night when there are high flows of people.

In the contribution from RADIO TOP, the two municipal councilors explain what they think of the city council’s decision:
