Winterthur: Fire in a residential container in an asylum shelter

The man was arrested to clarify a possible involvement in the fire, said the Zurich canton police on Wednesday.

Shortly after 3 a.m., the message was received that there was a fire in the asylum center. According to the notification, the deployed rescue workers evacuated a total of 25 people from the various residential containers. They quickly brought the flames in the affected container under control.

All residents – with the exception of the 21-year-old Iraqi – were able to return to their living containers after the extinguishing work was completed. The property damage caused by the fire is estimated at tens of thousands of francs.
