Winterthur extends regulations for outdoor catering

The catering industry, which has been hard hit by the coronavirus pandemic, is receiving support in Winterthur. The city council extends the special regulations for the expansion of outdoor areas and the approval of new outdoor restaurants. In addition, as in the previous winter, tents and wood-fired outdoor heating systems are permitted.

So that the restaurants can also use their outside space in the cool season, the city council allows tents and canopies to be set up and outside heating systems that are powered by wood. This regulation applies until the end of March 2022.

Electric infrared heaters or gas-powered patio heaters are not allowed for ecological reasons, as the city announced on Friday.

If the installations are not set up for longer than three months, a commercial police permit is sufficient. A building permit is required for those who are to stay longer. The city recommends involving the administrative and fire police at an early stage.

The regulation for the temporary expansion of existing outdoor areas and the approval of new outdoor restaurants were issued for the first time in May 2020 and will now be extended to a maximum of November 30, 2022. Existing permits could be extended unbureaucratically, according to the announcement.
