– Winterthur is a dog town
The 21st dog trade fair took place in the Eulachhallen at the weekend. “Dog learning” has been a term in Winterthur for much longer.

Last weekend it was that time again, hundreds of dog enthusiasts and their best (four-legged) friends made a pilgrimage from near and far to Winterthur, where the 21st Swiss dog trade fair took place in the Eulachhallen.
But Winterthur has not only been a household name among “dog lovers” since the dog fair. In June 1972, the Winterthur Cynological Society celebrated its 50th anniversary with a large Swiss dog show on the Teuchelweiher area. Around 260 dogs from 64 breeds and their owners took part, as the “Landbote” reported.
The reporter’s list reads like a who’s who of the dog world of the time. Most represented at this show were dachshunds in all their varieties, cocker spaniels and Swiss mountain dogs, as well as boxers, mastiffs, Rottweilers, bassets and St. Bernards. As a special feature, the writing dog lover mentions two Polish Shepherd Dogs, a breed that was only recognized for a short time at the time and was shown for the first time at the dog show in Winterthur.
The animals could be admired in the riding arena, where they were presented in individual boxes. But there were also outdoor demonstrations where the dogs and their owners were able to demonstrate their special characteristics and skills. The reporter was particularly impressed by a Rottweiler and how it defended its owner’s handbag. Even the dog lover is afraid.
