After a week characterized by blizzards and utter chaos, you see bare asphalt and the light at the end of the tunnel in Southern Norway. But the Swedish Road Administration still has an appeal.

The Swedish Road Administration and the police have asked people to avoid driving if it is not necessary on Thursday as well, especially on the E18. Private cars can cause problems for those who really have to get out.

On Thursday morning, however, traffic operator Ole-Martin Kjeldsen can see asphalt in the video images from the road network.

– On the main road network, it looks much better now. There are generally nice and decent conditions. But there can be problems on the smaller roads, says Kjeldsen to NTB.

He says there is bare asphalt on the E18. There has been a lot of snow, so it will take time to get it away. At the same time, it is still windy, so it can add to it.

– We ask people to drive according to the conditions and keep their distance. The roads are still slippery, and there may be unexpected snowdrifts with the wind that has been forecast, says Kjeldsen.

People should also be prepared that you can get stuck if you go out by car.

However, the bare roads may indicate that the worst is over. Among other things, shops in several places have started to run empty because supplies are not arriving. It seems to be getting easier now.

– It looks like that in the pictures I have, but it is not good to say what it is like inside the towns and towards the shops, says Kjeldsen.

– DO NOT play in the snow piles

Winds are forecast to rise to a gale on the coast of Agder, decreasing during the day – but still a slight gale in the evening. When the thermometer shows minus, the light snow flies off and piles up all around. Among other things, this creates problems on roads and footpaths.

All trains between Oslo and Kristiansand are still cancelled, as are some departures to Stavanger. Arendalsbanen is closed.

– Home care is helped to reach the users who need it the most, schools are closed on Thursday as well, after-school care and kindergarten are available for socially critical personnel, Kristiansand municipality wrote on Wednesday.

They are asking people not to call the emergency numbers unless it is an absolute emergency. They also remind that in many places it is difficult for motorists and plow trucks to see both adults and children.

– The snow piles can be very tempting to play or hide in. We encourage you NOT to play or hide in plow edges and snow piles that the plow crews have put up.
