Winter sports: What disciplines are there at the World Cups?
The 2022/23 winter sports season includes a large number of world cups, including biathlon, alpine skiing, Nordic combined and ski jumping.
The most important disciplines in winter sports at a glance:
Biathlon
Biathlon is a combination of Cross-country skiing and shoot. Athletes must demonstrate both endurance and accuracy by shooting at targets while skiing.
Alpine skiing
At the Alpine skiing athletes have to ski down a slope quickly while trying to set the best time. This discipline includes races like Downhill, Super-G and giant slalom.
ski jumping
Another popular winter sports discipline is this ski jumping. Athletes try to jump as far as possible from the ski jump. This sport requires both strength and technique.
Nordic combination
Die Nordic combination is a mix of ski jumping and Cross-country skiing. The athletes jump from the take-off table and then run down the slope on skis.

The 2022/23 winter sports season offers spectators and winter sports fans a wealth of highlights until March 25, 2023. Spectators can look forward to a variety of World Cup events in biathlon, alpine and Nordic skiing, as well as bobsleigh, luge, speed skating and ski cross.
Highlights of the season are the annual Four Hills Tournament for ski jumpers and numerous world championships, including two that will take place in Germany. The world title holders in tobogganing and biathlon are determined in Oberhof in Thuringia, and there are also Alpine World Championships in Courchevel and Méribel and Nordic World Championships in Planica. Saturdays will up to 12 hours reported in one piece from different competition locations. Both of the ARD as well as from ZDF there will be summaries, full-length competitions, highlights, background information and interviews on video for the 2022/2023 winter sports season.
