Winter Preparedness and Respiratory Health Measures by the Ministry of Health

The Ministry of Health and Population said that evidence received from the Ministry’s surveillance centers indicates an increase in respiratory virus infection rates due to the onset of winter this year, which is the same rates recorded at the beginning of winter during the past four years.

The Ministry of Health has raised the level of preparedness in chest hospitals nationwide, coinciding with the advent of the winter season, to provide all health care services for respiratory patients, and all cases visiting hospitals suffering from symptoms of seasonal influenza and colds.

She confirmed that the presence of doctors, nurses and pharmacists is being intensified with the provision of all medicines and vaccines for seasonal influenza vaccinations, in addition to training doctors and pharmacists and vaccinating all members of the medical team against Corona and seasonal influenza.

Dr. Wagdi Amin, Director General of the Central Administration for Chest Affairs at the Ministry of Health, said that the level of preparedness has been raised in 32 chest hospitals across the Republic. He pointed out that the strategic stock is safe and the hospitals have medicines available and they are dispensed to the patient in outpatient clinics for free.

He added that surveillance units are being allocated in hospitals to detect seasonal influenza infections, various viral mutations, or new respiratory viruses.

He pointed out that the Ministry has a strong epidemiological surveillance system for infectious diseases in 27 facilities, and stressed that the respiratory syncytial virus is not a serious disease, but its spread rates are high, and the incubation period of the virus is from 4 to 6 days, and the recovery period takes from one to two weeks.
