WARSAW/BRATISLAVA – Poland is considering organizing the Winter Olympic Games in 2034, which it would like to organize together with Slovakia.

According to Tuesday’s statement by Sports Minister Kamil Bortniczuk on Polsat TV, the centers of the competitions would be the Tatra resorts of Zakopane and Poprad.

According to Gazeta Wyborcza, there is also the possibility of Krkonoše including their Czech side. Wroclaw has already expressed a similar intention in the past, which at the beginning of this century offered a joint Olympic project to Liberec.

Minister Bortniczuk conditioned considerations of Olympic candidacy on the success of this year’s European Games in Krakow. “This will be the biggest multi-sport event of this year and at the same time the biggest in the history of Poland. If we manage it successfully, we will intensify the talks with Slovakia on the topic of Olympic candidacy.” he said.

Zakopane also applied for the 2006 Olympic Games, but was not among the candidate cities. Poland then considered a joint candidacy with Slovakia for the 2022 Olympics, the center of which was to be Krakow, but its residents rejected this idea in a referendum.

Italy will host the next Winter Olympics in three years. Salt Lake City is currently the only known contender for the 2030 Olympics.
