The number of people with flu in the Netherlands is on the rise again, reports the RIVM. Frosty days have arrived again and with them the number of people who go to the doctor due to flu-like illnesses is also increasing.
“There is no epidemic yet,” a spokesman for the RIVM told NU.nl. “But we see that the number of people with the flu is increasing.”
Last week, 30 out of 100,000 people visited their GP due to flu ailments. According to the RIVM, 14% of patients with a flu-like illness or other acute respiratory infection tested positive for the influenza virus. Several other viruses have also been found, such as the RS virus.
The number of people with the flu is expected to increase further. “If people get together again a lot at Christmas, the flu will also appear more often,” says the spokesperson.
Since October 3, another flu vaccine has been distributed. The effect of this will be known around February next year, according to the RIVM.
The number of people with crowns has also increased. The GGD reports a 7% increase. In nursing homes, the number of residents with a positive corona test increased by 51%. The number of hospitalizations of people with COVID-19 increased by 16% compared to the previous week.
