WINTER: Dijon under the snow

In accordance with the weather forecast, the flakes fell this Tuesday, January 12 in the morning on the Dijon agglomeration. A thin layer of snow transformed the cityscapes.

Winter has arrived ! No white walkers in the streets of Dijon yet but passers-by well wrapped up to face the snowflakes and the wind of this Tuesday, January 12, 2021. Upon waking up, the people of Dijon discovered a thin layer of snow which has continued to increase in during the morning, the temperatures remaining negative except in the city center where it was zero degrees and where the snow was melting in the busiest places.

Walkers enjoy a magical atmosphere in the Carrières Bacquin park, the noises of the city are muffled by the white cotton wool and the fog. The birds are looking for some food. In the Darcy garden, the Polar Bear by sculptor François Pompon finds an environment familiar to polar ursids. For their part, the statues are dressed in a wedding dress.

Work continues

The streets and sidewalks transformed into ice rinks do not stop cyclists, especially those who use them as their means of locomotion: couriers, delivery men and postmen are in action. Scooters take a break.

On the site of the Cité internationale de la Gastronomie et du Vin, work at height was stopped, with snow covering the roofs. On the other hand, on the ground, the workers continue their activities.

Saleuses in action

Regarding traffic, Dijon Métropole launched its snow plan on November 13th. It can operate 24 hours a day thanks to patrollers and on-call agents. The network to be treated represents around 1,000 km of roads. Structuring routes, used in particular by public transport, are dealt with first. The secondary network is then scanned.

Thus, in the morning, the ballet of salt and snow plows spread to the heart of the Dijon neighborhoods. Regarding sidewalks, each owner or tenant is required to clear snow and eliminate ice in front of their property in order to ensure safe traffic for pedestrians (read the press release on the Dijon Métropole snow plan).
