DRAMMEN DISTRICT: It wasn’t long ago that there were hour-long queues outside Buskerud shopping center to change tyres.
And if you are among those who have already switched to summer tyres, you will probably have to settle for leaving the car this morning.
– If you are going out for a drive in the morning, it is important that you still have winter tires and that you drive well, advises traffic operator at the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, Andreas Larsen.
Not just in height
That there could be snow at high altitude was probably expected by many after Monday’s snowfall. But for Larsen and the others at the Norwegian Road Administration, they got a surprise in the morning, Tuesday.
– The snowy weather that has arrived now shows local differences. The most exposed place is in Tranby and Lierskogen, and then it is usually a little scattered and in high places. But now in the last half hour it has started to snow down in the center of Drammen too, says Larsen at 05.45.
According to him, it has snowed all night in some places. That is why the Norwegian Public Roads Administration has also had plow trucks out virtually all night.
– We still have winter preparedness and have actually been driving all night. It is snowing so much in some places. It’s really wintery, so it’s not easy to just keep the roads. When the weather improves, there will probably be even more plow trucks as the snow is lower in the terrain as well.
– Leave the car standing
Operations manager Per Eftang at the operations center in the South East police district says that it has been a quiet night in the district, but that the morning has started with chaos on the E16 at Sundvollen (Ringerike).
– At the rest areas towards Sundvollen, there are 15-20 lorries that are stuck, says Eftang shortly after 05.30 and adds that they have a patrol there.
Eftang says that he expects that there may soon be more to do for the police this Tuesday morning. He also asks you to leave the car if you have switched to summer tyres.
– It’s probably a lot to assume that many people are due for a tire change right now. If you have summer tires in this route, our recommendation is to leave the car standing. If you drive with summer tires in winter conditions, you don’t have the right tyres, says the operations manager.
Just after 6 a.m., the police wrote the following on Twitter:
– The patrols report snow and difficult driving conditions at Liertoppen. It is not possible to drive there without winter tires.
