In the “Climate Protection Next Door” ideas competition, the nebenan.de Foundation awarded prizes to five winning projects that promote a climate-friendly neighborhood. The projects were awarded a total of 3000 euros. From more than 600 ideas submitted, a jury of experts selected these winning ideas from, among others, member cities of the German Association of Cities:
- “The treasury of the textile workshop” of the interest group “Sustainable action in München“: Saving textiles, sorting them and turning them into new products with free sewing courses and free use of sewing machines in order to save resources (material and energy) and contribute to the climate.
- “bgreen2 – plant vertical city green” the end Mainz: Bringing space-saving creepers and climbing plants to the increasingly hot inner city.
- “Green lungs for the neighborhood” von Biodiversity Berlin e. V. from Berlin: The association is planting an air conditioner on a fallow, public area: mini forest!
- “Future quiz for more climate protection and self-efficacy kit” of Omas for Future Leipzig: With the future quiz, which is offered as a quiz carousel in public space, at quiz events in senior and multi-generational clubs and as a quiz booklet, citizens can playfully obtain knowledge and suggestions for their own climate-friendly actions.
Another winning idea is the “Bürgerenergie Oder-Spree” from Steinhöfel, Brandenburg: Neighbors invest together in PV systems on public buildings. They support financially weak communities, are committed to the climate and generate a small amount that can be reinvested.
the German City Day was represented on the expert jury by Carina Peters, speaker at the German Association of Cities.
There were also 10 audience winners and 3 other winners selected by the foundation. These 13 ideas were able to get started with starting capital of 1000 euros.
