Atletico Madrid managed to beat Real society 2-1 in the 36th jornada Spanish League. This result makes the chances of Los Colchoneros to become champions this season even more wide open.
At the Wanda Metropolitano, Thursday (13/5/2021) in the morning WIB, Atletico immediately took the lead in the first half through goals from Yannick Carrasco (16 ‘) and Angel Correa (28’). Sociedad then narrowed the distance through Igor Zubeldia’s goal in the 83rd minute, but it was not enough to avoid defeat.
Now Atletico are firmly at the top of the standings with a value of 80 points. They are only two wins away from the LaLiga title this season. As for Sociedad, they remain fifth with 56 points.
The course of the match
Luis Suarez placeholder image almost opened up Atletico’s lead in the 5th minute, but his shot in the box went over the bar. Four minutes later, Marcos Llorente’s left-footed shot was pushed over by Sociedad goalkeeper Alex Remiro.
The goal for Atletico only arrived in the 16th minute. Receiving a lob from Marcos Llorente, Yannick Carrasco controlled the ball in the penalty box then fired a shot past Remiro. 1-0 for the hosts.
Sociedad tried to reply. Ander Barrenetxea had a chance in the 18th minute, but Jan Oblak’s right footed shot in the penalty box was still blocked by Jan Oblak. Unfortunately for the visitors, Atletico added a goal in the 28th minute.
Suarez cleverly sent a through ball past three Sociedad players. Angel Correa who entered the penalty box from the right side immediately grabbed it with a low shot that lodged in the left corner of Remiro’s goal. Score 2-0 lasted until halftime.
In the second half, Suarez had another chance to score, but his shot into the right corner of the net in the 50th minute was easily secured by Remiro. In the 52nd minute, it was Oblak’s turn to fall and rise to save Joseba Zaldua’s long-range shot.
In the 67th minute, Cristian Portu volleyed into the top left corner of the Atletico goal, but only produced a corner after Oblak cleared it. On the next opportunity in the 80th minute, Portu’s right-footed ball hit the post instead.
Sociedad finally got a goal in the 83rd minute. Martin Merquelanz’s corner was received by Igor Zubeldia, who was free-standing in front of Oblak’s goal. With one shot, Oblak’s goal was broken. Score becomes 2-1.
But Atletico managed to keep the score up to the long whistle. Upbringing squad Diego Simeone also came out victorious.
