Winners of the Latvian Motorcycle of the Year 2023 Competition

On June 29, 2023, the t/c “Mols” announced the jury’s evaluations and voting results, as part of which the winners of the annual motorcycle competition were selected “Latvian Motorcycle of the Year”. This year, 24 motorcycles from a total of 10 dealers entered the competition, and the authors of Cursor – Kristaps Skutelis and Reinis Traidās – were also on the judging jury. Although the official voting is over, we plan to continue testing and reviewing the most interesting bikes from this year’s competition throughout the summer, so stay tuned! Hmmm…

And now for all the winners in a row.

Gada Choperis – Indian Sport Chief

In the “Chopper of the Year” category, the winner was the Indian Sport Chief, a model on which there were mixed opinions among the jury, but this year there were very few representatives of this genre in the competition. The second representative of this genre was the BMW R18, about which we already wrote a review last year. This model won the People’s Vote. Both big, powerful and beautiful. Street motorcycle of the year and “scrambler” of the year – Ducati Scrambler 800

The Ducati Scrambler 800 very deservedly won the title of winner in two whole categories – “Street Bike of the Year” and “Scrambler of the Year”, obviously dominating the rating tables in both of these categories at the same time. And this is no surprise – the Ducati Scrambler 800 is a likable, simple, enjoyable and entertaining street bike. With the ability to drive also on gravel roads. Motorcycle of the year up to 500cc – Royal Enfield HNTR 350

In the category “Motorcycle of the Year up to 500cc”, the winner was the small, fine street motorcycle Royal Enfield HNTR (Hunter) 350. It must be said that this category was not very widely represented either. We will offer a more detailed review of this model later. Royal Enfield Hunter 350 (2030) – Official Photo

Gada elektromotocikls – Energica Eva Ribelle RS

The extraordinarily powerful and sporty Energica Eva Ribelle RS was blessed as the electric motorcycle of the year (a new category in the competition). Energy Eve Ribelle RS (2023)

Adventure motorcycle of the year – Husqvarna Norden 901 Expedition

The adventure (read – touring) motorcycle of the year was predictably named the Husqvarna Norden 901 Expedition, which this time beat out the popular Ducati Desert-X, which we would have placed our bets on. Husqvarna Norden 901 (2023) – Official photo

Gada klasika – Triumph Bonneville T100

The “Classic of the Year” category went to the romantic Triumph Bonneville T100 – who else. Triumph is actually the only manufacturer (at least in Europe) that actively maintains and develops a line of modern classic motorcycles. As one, all Bonnevilles are beautiful motorcycles with retro charm and modern components. Triumph Bonneville T100 (2023) – Official photo

Gada motorolleris – Honda ADV 350

This year, the scooter category also had some competition. There were a total of three applicants for this category, although two of them (Fantic Issimu City and BMW C400) also competed in the electric motorcycle category. Anyway, only the Honda ADV 350 was available for testing on the day of the jury, so it turns out that Honda has a “technical” victory this time. No matter how technical, it is good that the dealer actively promotes this model. The more two-wheelers on our streets, the better. Honda Adv 350 (2023) – Official photo

Motorcycle of the year – Moto Morini SCR 650

Three places were awarded in the main competition category “Motorcycle of the Year”. The honorable third or bronze medal went to the recently revived, very practical and reasonable Honda Transalp 750. The second place in the overall standings went to the same Energica Eva Ribelle RS.

And now the most important thing. The winner of the first place and Latvian Motorcycle of the Year title is none other than Moto Morini SCR 650 – a motorcycle, about which Cursor will soon prepare an in-depth review. In Cursor’s view, this model really deserved the Motorcycle of the Year title. It is relatively affordable in price (8000 EUR), looks great, sounds great, is adequately equipped, but most importantly – it simply puts a smile on the faces of all testers with its whole essence and totality. 650 twin cylinders roll. The 650 is the ideal mid-displacement engine. It is at the same time friendly for beginners, but gives enough dynamics to not seem boring to more experienced users. It was already proven by the cool retro Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and now the Moto Morini SCR 650. Moto Morini 650 Scrambler (2023) – Official Photo

It is significant that this year the main prize was won by a small motorcycle from a little-known, new brand. It was a positive surprise in a sense, which will hopefully strengthen the movement and sales of other new brands. And maybe it will make the old and big traders think about it. As a minimum, customer service and shopping experience should definitely be strongly evaluated by some of our large motorcycle dealers in Latvia.

Moto Morini is distributed in Latvia and Lithuania “Dude Bikes”, Kalnciema 40E, Riga. This same dealer also distributes Mash, Brixton and Cake brand motorcycles. Moto Morini SCR 650 with Dude Bikes representatives and the jury
