Winia Electronics Seeks Repayment of Unpaid Wages Through Sale of Mexican Factory

[인포스탁데일리=김영택 기자] Winia Electronics, which applied for court receivership due to financial difficulties, announced that it would seek to repay unpaid wages through the sale of its Mexican factory.

Winia Electronics submitted a written opinion to the court on July 19 for repayment of unpaid wages, and it is known that it has currently owed a total of 30.2 billion won in unpaid wages and severance pay to 409 workers.

In addition, Winia Electronics announced that it plans to sell its Mexican factory worth 300 billion won.

Recently, Mabe, Mexico’s largest home appliance company, and Electrolux, a global home appliance company, conducted an inspection of the factory and are currently waiting for a proposal regarding the sale price and acquisition structure.

The explanation is that if the sale of the Mexican factory is successful, it will be possible to secure financial resources to repay all unpaid wages and further repay loans to affiliates.

Winia Electronics was acquired by Daewoo Winia Group in 2018 after passing through Dongbu Group after the collapse of Daewoo Group during the foreign exchange crisis.

Winia Electronics’ business situation worsened as overseas factories were shut down due to the COVID-19 incident.
