Around a hundred people gathered this past Friday at the beginning of the evening in Saint-Geniès-de-Malgoirès, in the Guard. Called a rally for winemakers in distress. Four representatives answered the call: Michel Sala (LFI), Yoann Gillet (RN), Nicolas Meizonnet (RN) and Pascale Bordes (RN). Two senators too: Denis Bouad (PS) and Laurent Burgoa (LR), as well as several mayors. “We have to die, we are all going to die (…) I have three boys, as long as they don’t do the same job (…) For now, we are in diplomacy, but that’s not survived“.
The Autumn 2023 is not selling, or very bad. Cooperative vaults are always full. “Within Languedoc, five to six million hectoliters are still to be sold“, according to Freddy Paulet, a farmer in Moussac.”In four months we harvest. If nothing is done, there will be no place for colleagues to harvest, the markets will be at zero, prices will fall. How do we do? The banks don’t want, they don’t want to lend now (…) we are reaching the end of the wall“.
They specifically denounce foreign wine imported into France. “Every year, Spain sends us between seven and eight million hectoliters. If it continues like this, the vineyard will only be a memory (…) next year in November we will no longer be there. With the stock in the cellars, it will be unsold, worthless“. Freddy Paulet says about foreign wines: “of the wine treated with prohibited products in France for 20 years (…) Let us meet the same standards! Sanitary products are not the same, salaries are the same, and costs are not.. “
Wine growers want, like last year, to establish a emergency brewing. “We don’t know how to do it anymore“.
