Windsurfer Odd Nordstoga | FRIFLYT.NO

The week before Odd Nordstoga released the new album In the forest Fri Flyt meets the famous musician on a beach near Tofte.

The wind blows quite well from the southeast. Odd replaced harmonica, guitar and accordion with sails and boards.

– It’s not the closest thing to style, dialect and music. If I were the bassist of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, it would probably involve windsurfing naturally, Odd admits and laughs.

However, Odd ticks the boxes that define him as a windsurfer. Not least, he is above average enthusiasm. He is so impatient that the sailing season will last until December. He is longer than most windsurfers dare and has the strength to endure.

Although the Vinje musician thinks windsurfing is difficult to master, there is also some joy in it. He also has clear goals to improve. This winter he will go on a training trip to Tobago with super coach Jem Hall. He did it last year too.

– A little adrenaline, a little anxiety, a lot of concentration, and then it’s also ferocious. There’s something more to windsurfing, says Nordstoga, which came straight from moose hunting before we met him.

– Part of the thing about windsurfing is being able to master it. Check it out and speed through at 25 knots. It’s a wild feeling. When there is a lot of wind, you have to concentrate so much that your head becomes empty of everything else. I think it’s healthy, says Odd, who also speaks a lot about the respect he has for the sea.

As most people will know, Odd doesn’t come from a place where windsurfing is the natural choice of the hobby, but windsurfing is actually something Odd has been doing since his youth. Here’s what the confirmation money went to.

– The problem in Vinje and in the mountains I come from is that there are two or three gusts of wind a year. Throughout the 1980s, maybe I planned 10 seconds total, Odd jokes.

These days, Odd Nordstoga is privy to a new self-produced album. Slightly away from the call of the sea, Nordstoga titled the new album In the forest.

One fine day, Odd promises that there will also be a song about sails and wind.

– It could be something figurative. There will be no new ones You will do a surfboard on the sløydeas with Vasselina Bilopphøggers, I don’t think so.
