Windsor Regional Hospital changes policy for patient visits

As of midnight Monday, the hospital will no longer allow visitors from patients infected or possibly infected with COVID-19.

The hospital said in a statement that there will be exceptions, especially for palliative care patients who do not have medical procedures producing aerosols, as well as for parents or guardians of children with a confirmed case or possible virus.

However, virtual tours will be offered for the duration of the new policy.

The hospital also clarified that in-person visits may continue after a patient’s COVID-19 case is resolved.

« We recognize the impact of isolation on patients and families during this difficult time. »

We also take into account recent government guidelines recommending the use of fitted N95 masks for personnel who are in contact with cases of COVID-19, given the significant transmissibility of the Omicron variant, can we read in the press release.

Ontario reported 9,418 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday.

There was no update on the number of cases in the Windsor-Essex region on Monday. The Windsor-Essex Public Health Unit said last week it would not release data on the number of cases until December 29, due to the holidays.

The last update from health authorities in the region was on Thursday, when 105 new cases were announced.
