Windows too slow? Speed up your computer with a one minute hack

Of course, simplifying the entire process of loading the operating system will reward you with a faster startup of the entire computer, but that’s not all – it can also lighten up the taskbar or menu bars in application windows and at the same free up time to increase processing power that is consumed by programs you rarely use.

You don’t even need expensive system cleaning apps for this quick PC maintenance. A quick trip to the settings menu of the Windows operating system is enough, where you can immediately decide which applications should be launched at startup and which should not. Read the following lines for instructions on how to disable applications from starting when the operating system starts:

  • In Windows 10 or 11, click the Start menu and select the icon when the menu appears Settings.
  • Go to the menu Applications > After Startup.
  • In the list that appears, disable the launch of all applications. which you don’t necessarily need right after starting your computer.

Which applications that start when the operating system starts should be disabled?

If you need help deciding which apps to disable, we’d be happy to help. First, look for apps that you don’t need to always run in the background. Particularly clear candidates for a boot ban are those applications that are said to have a high impact on the boot speed of the operating system. They are very likely to slow down your computer when starting up.

So I’ve personally disabled Slack, Microsoft Edge, and Logitech’s Options software on my computer because I don’t care enough about any of them to have to launch them right after boot. (This means I don’t get any notifications from Slack on my desktop until I actually launch it, but I don’t mind. Anything important is immediately notified to me from the Slack mobile app). Of course, you can disable any application that you don’t necessarily need to run right away, and you don’t need to notice that it has a strong impact on the boot speed of the operating system.

But the opposite is also true: I myself have allowed some applications to start when the operating system starts, because they must always be running in the background. In particular, I use for example Auto Dark Mode for automatic switching between light and dark Windows themes, flow to adjust the color tone of the screen e Beeftext to create and write text shortcuts. Since I need these programs to be available immediately, I leave them on regardless of their impact on performance.

None of these settings should be permanent. If you want to change the app startup behavior, go back to Settings > Applications > After startupfemalein and turn them on or off again when the Windows operating system starts.
