Microsoft is fulfilling more of its promises from last year. Its Windows 365 service was supposed to be tightly integrated with regular installations of Windows 10 and 11. A standalone client came out in March, and a month later the company began testing booting into a cloud computer. Now the client brings the penultimate of the promised features.
Switching to a virtual machine is as easy as switching to a virtual desktop. But it only applies to Windows 11, although Désítky also offers a menu for switching between virtual desktops. It is in the menu for switching between desktops that Windows 365 integrates, so that the virtual machine is just another desktop in this place.
The whole solution is formally called Windows 365 Switch and is available for now in the Dev and Beta test circuits the Windows Insider program. Microsoft prefers that you test the feature in the Beta channel.
There is no difference between switching between virtual desktops with computers
Use either button to toggle View tasks on the main panel, or keyboard shortcuts (Win+Ctrl+left/right arrow). In order to do so, however, you must first add the virtual machine to the menu from the client. Switching also works when you are working in a virtual machine.
You will return from it to the local Windows 11 environment in the same way. If the connection to the virtual computer is already established, the switch is immediate – just as if you were heading to another virtual desktop. Now Microsoft is left with the last, but probably the most important and complex task. Windows 365 should also run in offline mode.
Windows 365 was introduced to the world two years ago:
