If you’re like us, it’s not a few times you’ve shaken your head at all the pre-installed programs in Windows 10. Microsoft seems to have realized that it’s gone overboard, and will reportedly give in. pre-installed applications in Windows 11 – mostly.
According to MSPoweruser pre-installed applications in Windows 11, which will otherwise be launched on October 5, 2021, will not exist to the same extent as in its predecessor. Some applications that used to be pre-installed in Windows 10 will now only appear as shortcuts. If the user clicks on these shortcuts, the operating system will try to install the application.
A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed to MSPoweruser that this decision “reduces the size of the disk and that you will also have less background activity due to updates and less download traffic.”
In addition to changing how pre-installed apps work, Windows 11 will also make some drivers so-called Features on Demand (FoD), in other words, there will be less software in the OS installation package itself by default (such as drivers for network chips and Wi -Fi functionality.)
Comment: Less useless software in Windows 11? Yes please!
By changing which applications and drivers are pre-installed, Windows 11 takes big steps toward better performance over its predecessor. If you have less fuss installed, the OS does not have to take care of a nearly endless amount of updates in apps you never use.
On the other hand, there may be some who have used pre-installed apps such as To Do or Xbox Game Bar, which now probably needs to be installed manually. What level of bundled apps Microsoft should put on is a double-edged sword, but no matter how much software is missing, the programs are just a few clicks away, since the shortcuts will be available in the start menu anyway.
Ultimately, this is a positive change for users who want to switch to Windows 11 in October. Fewer applications means a lighter OS that requires less hardware, and should be helpful to anyone with limited technical insight, who does not want to sit forever struggling to improve operating system performance.
