Windows 11 shows how long it takes to install updates

Windows updates are rarely useful, which is why Microsoft is taking steps to further simplify the process in Windows 11. For example, the operating system will indicate approximately how long it will take to install.

This Windows Insider discovered this (including the site the stuff), which may go live starting this week with an early version of Windows 11. After the update is downloaded, Windows will prompt you to restart your computer. Now there is also a time indication, in the example about five minutes. The information also appears on the power button in the start menu.

This way you know how long your computer will be unusable while the installation is in progress. It remains to be seen how accurate the prediction will actually be. In fact, this update took just over a minute. So Microsoft charges a little slack.

Small updates

When Windows 11 was unveiled, OS updates were found to be 40 percent smaller than Windows 10’s, so they would also take less time to download. Its installation can be delayed up to a week in the current beta version of Windows 11. The same waiting time is used in Windows 10.

These are so-called cumulative updates, which often contain important security updates. Therefore, Microsoft gives you a relatively short time frame to complete the installation. Major feature updates, such as those for Windows 10 that launch every six months, can be delayed for up to a year.
