“Windows 11 Security Update: Patching Critical Flaws and Zero Day Exploits”

If you’re running Windows 11, it’s time to run Windows Update. During the night, Microsoft has released an update to the system with a number of important fixes for security flaws and various other small fixes. The update has the code KB5025239 and takes Windows 11 to build number 22621.1555.

On the security front, the update closes 97 security flaws, of which Microsoft has classified 7 of them as critical. One is a so-called zero day, a previously unknown flaw that has begun to be exploited by hackers. That bug was in Windows’ logging system and allowed a low-privileged process to gain full access to the system. It was discovered by Kaspersky and is used by the Nokoyawa ransomware.

Users should also download updates to the Office programs where Microsoft has closed a bug that allowed remote code execution as soon as a specially encoded document is opened.

In addition to the security fixes, Microsoft has among other things fixed a bug that caused USB-connected printers to be incorrectly classified as multimedia devices and one that prevented all settings from being seen in Notepad. The update also includes a test feature that shows notifications in the Start menu for some users. Microsoft will test different designs for the function in the coming time.
