Windows 11 Runs Successfully on Xiaomi and OnePlus Phones

Jakarta

Not long ago an engineering student named Gustavo Monce managed to install a Windows 11 to Nokia Lumia 950 XL. Now Microsoft’s latest operating system is running successfully on HP Xiaomi and OnePlus.

Xilin Wu, the developer behind the Renegade project, said that he had successfully installed and run Windows 11 for the ARM64 chip on a mobile phone. Snapdragon 845 and Snapdragon 855. As proof, the Renegade team managed to install Windows 11 on OnePlus 6T and Xiaomi Mi 8.

To run Windows 11 on an Android phone, the developers of the Renegade project created their own tools and drivers, and enabled UEFI on the Snapdragon 845. In the video they published, they show how the installation process is done.

The Renegade team used a OnePlus 6T running Windows 10. After that proceeded to flash the Preview build of Windows 11 for ARM chips.

Although the installation process took a while, in the end the OnePlus 6T managed to boot Windows 11. It’s just that most of the features of Windows 11 can’t be used, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and speaker audio.

The problem is exactly what Gustavo Monce experienced. After installing Windows 11 on Lumia 950 XL, there are some phone features that can’t function normally, such as camera, SMS and battery drain.

While the new interface and features in Windows 11 can be displayed, such as a new taskbar, a new Start menu, and even a Snap layout.

To bring Windows 11 to Windows Phone, Monse and his team ported and reverse engineered existing drivers. Because they had previously worked on Windows 10 and Windows 10X for Lumia, their work was made easier.

Monce and his team also created a dedicated site for their project that contains tools, guides and documentation for bringing Windows 10 and Windows 11 to old Windows Phone phones.
