Windows 11: Microsoft is improving the file explorer

Microsoft is currently still busy fixing the various bugs in Windows 11 24H2. At the same time, new features will of course continue to be developed. The latest beta build with the identification number 22635.4515 brings with it two functions that are intended to simplify and improve the use of the file explorer.

Tabs and backups

Specifically, with the new version there is a setting to no longer just open folders opened via the start menu in a new window, but as a tab in an already open Explorer window. This reduces the number of corresponding windows and therefore potentially the chaos in the taskbar. If the function is activated, you can still open a new window by holding down the control key and double-clicking – or you can leave the option deactivated and use Windows as before.
