Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Microsoft has launched its newest operating system (OS) Windows 11 globally. Computer and laptop users can download it for free.
Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella said the new OS was a milestone for Windows. “Today marks a major milestone in the history of Windows. This is the beginning of a new generation,” he said, quoted by CNBC International, Thursday (7/10/2021).
Microsoft is targeting all eligible devices to be offered a free upgrade to Windows 11 by mid-2022. To find out which devices users can get the Windows 22 update, you can download the PC Health Check application or use an open source application called WhyNotWin11.
If you get a Windows 11 update, you can follow these steps:
- Go to Settings
- Windows Update
- Select Check for updates.
- If available, you’ll see Feature update to Windows 11.
- Click Download and install.
Windows 11 brings a number of new features ranging from the ability to download and run Android applications, Microsoft Teams updates, and the Start menu. Here are 7 features that can be found in Windows 11, quoted from CNet:
1. Design
Windows 11’s design is much cleaner with rounded edges and pastel colors. In addition, the Start menu and Taskbar appear in the middle.
2. Android Application Integration
Windows 11 can be integrated with Android apps via the Amazon App Store. This app store can be accessed via Microsoft Store updates.
3. Widget
Widgets have actually existed in previous OSes including the recent Windows 10 update. But for Windows 11, users can access it directly from the Taskbar and can be personalized to see whatever they want.
4. Microsoft Teams
Teams is also included in the Windows 11 update. This online meeting platform will be easier to access, Cnet notes, almost like Apple’s FaceTime. So Teams can be accessed via Windows, Mac, Android to iOS.
5. Xbox
Windows 11 features will be found on Xbox consoles, such as Auto HDR and DirectStorage. That way can improve the game on a Windows PC.
6. Virtual Desktop
Windows 11 users can set up virtual desktops, CNet says which is almost like MacOS. namely by changing the toggle between multiple desktops for personal use, work, school, or gaming. In addition, users can also change the wallpaper on each virtual desktop.
7. Transition from Monitor to Laptop
Microsoft eased the transition from monitor to laptop in Windows 11. The OS included features called Snap Groups and Snap Layouts. That is, a collection of applications that are used at once on the Taskbar or minimized simultaneously to waste when switching tasks.
