Windows 11 Copilot and 2023 Update: Release Date, Availability, and More

When Microsoft announced the arrival of new features in Windows 11 on September 21, which was supposed to be led by Copilot, it was very non-specific and chaotic about the parameters of the introduction of new features. This has become the norm in recent years. He later added at least some key information that somewhat changes the situation.

In a post on one of the main blogs that accompanied the release of the previously announced Windows 11 news on September 26, the footnotes you finish readingthat Copilot will only be launched in a few select countries. The Czech Republic is not one of them. Microsoft is focusing on North America, some parts of Asia and South America in the first phase. It was as if Europe did not exist for him.

However, I cannot claim that it will not change in a matter of days or rather weeks. The final version of the package of new functions may already count on the global deployment of Copilot, but we do not know for sure, because Microsoft is not more specific. It only states that it expects to expand to other countries in the future. We will have to wait and be surprised. Microsoft does not explain its approach. He may fear, for example, strict European Union legislation or accusations of monopoly abuse.

Can’t see Copilot even though it was supposed to be available from September 26th? The fault is not with your receiver

Windows 11 2023 Update

For a change on the insider blog, we they found outthat the fall edition will be marketed as Windows 11 2023 Update. At the same time, Microsoft confirmed that build 22631 will be marked as version 23H2. It is the version and build number that are to be relabeled when the news package is deployed mandatorily to everyone. (More below.)

Version 23H2 is now available for enterprise testing, specifically in the Release Preview channel of the Windows Insider Program for Business. At the same time they can voluntarily installed by consumerswho are also connected to the channel Release Preview. The relevant update will be offered to those who manually check for updates and have a compatible computer. So the installation is voluntary for now.

Part of the autumn update are developers
tools that may appear on your computer by themselves

Apart from the fact that this version is marked as 23H2 and the build number is artificially increased to 22631, the content of the release should be identical to what the current voluntary service update for Windows 11 22H2 offers to people outside the Insider testing program. (In this case, in practice, except for updating KB5030310 must install update windows settings. The same happened with Momentum 3, both will be provided by Windows Update.)

Microsoft has released new installation images ISO s Windows 11 23H2which are still officially stamped with the Windows Insider brand, as can be seen from the above.

Windows 11 23H2 arrives in November

In a completely different post on one of Microsoft’s blogs explicitly statesthat the new functions, which according to marketing are available from September 26, will be real switched on gradually and randomly. He developed a technology for these cases controlled feature rollout (CFR). It is therefore possible that even if you have installed the optional update KB5030310, you will not immediately see many of the promised new features. We have already explained the situation with Copilot, controlled distribution, specifically CFR, is responsible for the rest.

If you want to be among the first to receive new features, activate the preference in the Windows Update settings Get the latest updates as they become available. By activating it, you also open the door to the automatic installation of optional service updates, which currently includes KB5030310.

If you have installed the optional update,
you can speed up the activation of new functions with this switch

In this post, the Redmonds explicitly state for the first time when they expect a classic release for non-volunteers. The widest public should bring the majority of – they use the word themselves – new functions mandatory service update along with security patches in November. This month’s Patch Tuesday falls on the 14th, so most PCs will start moving to Windows 11 version 23H2 right from November 14th.

How about Cocreator in Painting

Something similar to Copilot applies to graphics generator in Painting. Cocreator became the only surprise of the autumn news pages in Windows 11, we already knew all the other functions from the Insider program. But Microsoft didn’t originally say that generative AI wouldn’t be available everywhere right away. He adds more specifically to the situation with Cocreator compared to explaining the availability of Copilot.

Generating graphics in Paint starts under the Preview label in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, France and Australia. On Czech Republic and Slovakia at least in the pilot phase of introducing the function far from getting. However, the phase of general availability should be reached within a few weeks, and regional restrictions will probably fall by then.

We certainly don’t know. At least the Redmonds add other details that they didn’t originally reveal:

Cocreator requires signing in to a Microsoft account. Feature may require subscription. You will probably get a few credits for free, but for further creation you will have to purchase Microsoft 365 or another service. The pilot testing phase only supports commands in English. One request now costs one credit, it is possible that this will not change over time. Each has 50 credits to try out.

And most importantly, the image generator is the first to join the Insider program, not to the standard stable Windows 11 like the rest of the announced news. Before the end of September, distribution began in the Canary and Dev channels. Cocreator offers Paint 11.2309.20.0 and later.

Painting integrates an AI image generator. So far only in a few countries

Nor is it the case that everyone in the Insider program in the named countries will try the feature. Applicants must register on the waiting list with their Microsoft account. Then they will wait, we don’t know how long.

Microsoft confirmed the obvious. Technology will not generate any image for you. It will react negatively to certain types of queries just like the generator in Bing Chat or Midjourney. Cocreator almost certainly uses the new Dall-e 3 neuron, Microsoft recently deployed it in Bing Image Creator as well.
