The internet is full of scams and this is another very dangerous one that is attacking users of the Windows 10. The bait is simple. It impersonates a document that was supposedly created in Windows 11 Alpha. So people need to do some things to open it up. This is where things get complicated. It’s just that if we do what they ask, we’re offering full control of our machine and that’s something no one wants.
Windows 11 Alpha: be very careful with this!
As launch very close to Windows 11 it is normal that some threats appear that take advantage of this fact.
That said, emails are coming in with what appear to be important documents. The point is, people try to open them and nothing. However, there are instructions that accompany them that seem to us to save our lives. The problem is, they do the opposite.
In fact, the instructions in the document are designed to get people to disable security features. In practice they say it is to make the document generated on Windows 11 Alpha compatible with Windows 10. The point is that they do the opposite.
In fact, they disable the protections and allow the execution of macros that download a javascript package that allows attackers to take over the computer.
Security company Anomali analyzed this magnifying glass attack and more specifically six different samples.
The website Bleeping Computer stated that this attack is claiming victims among end users and businesses. However, the main targets are companies.
These types of attacks can be really problematic, especially for organizations, not only because of the stolen information but also because of the stops they require in order to resolve it.
However, in the case of emails, you can’t be too careful. Threats are becoming more sophisticated and so everyone is in danger.
