Windows 11 24H2 Update: Release Date, AI Features, and Rumors about Windows 12

Windows 12 has been rumored for some time, and it was highly expected that the next operating system would be released in the second half of this year, but Microsoft has finally confirmed that the Windows 11 24H2 update will be released later this year, leading to… Stopping all the rumors about a possible release of Windows 12 in 2024, while the exact launch date remains unknown, it is promised to be a major update.

It is expected to come with several new AI features and improvements, and Microsoft, through a Windows Insider blog post, announced last week that Windows 11 24H2 will be the next major feature update to arrive this year.

“Starting with build 26-xx today, Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev channels will see the build update under Settings > System > About (and winver) to build 24H2,” the company said. This suggests that Windows 11, build 24H2 will be this year’s annual feature. “Windows 11 will have an annual feature update cadence released in the second half of the calendar year,” the company said.

Microsoft’s latest announcement contradicts previous rumors about a possible release of Windows 12 in 2024. Not much is known about Windows 11 24H2 now, but some reports and leaks indicate that artificial intelligence capabilities will be the main focus of the next update.

The features expected to arrive in Windows 12 could be released within the 24H2 patch for Windows 11, and the update is expected to take advantage of the new hardware-accelerated neural processing units (NPUs) for new computers, and could include a new Sudo command, and upgrades to audio clarity, Energy saving improvements, and more.

Windows 11 24H2 is expected to include an advanced Coplite Assistant, and Microsoft is expected to introduce its DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) technology, which is similar to Super Resolution technology, within the upcoming Windows 11 24H2 update to improve gaming performance. It can use AI to run supported games smoothly with enhanced details.

Microsoft unveiled the Windows 11 operating system in 2021, and since then, the company has released many important updates and new features for the operating system. It is currently available on more than 400 million monthly active devices, and it is possible to reach 500 million monthly active devices by Early this year. Now, the tech giant appears to be following the annual feature update cycle for Windows 11, scheduled to be released in the second half of each year, marking a departure from the operating system’s smaller Moments updates.
