Windows 10 users who made system updates after June 28 may encounter problems when trying to use a printer connected via USB. the own Microsoft disclosed that it has received reports of the situation.
“Microsoft has received reports of issues affecting some printing devices after installing Windows updates released June 28 (KB5014666) and beyond,” the company said. “We are currently investigating and will provide an update when more information becomes available,” the company commented.
What to do to fix?
The problem seems to double the printerwith apps showing the device more than once, with the name repeated followed by a “Copy1”.
While Microsoft does not correct the situation, the owner of Windows suggests what you can try to do to at least be able to print what you need:
- Click “Devices” in the Windows 10 settings window and choose “Printers and Scanners”;
- If you see a duplicate installation of your printer with the suffix “Copy1”, test to see if it works;
- If you need to use the original printer installation, not the copy, right click on the duplicated version, then “properties”. In the “ports” tab, see which one is in use;
- Open the properties of the original printer and navigate to the “ports” tab. Choose the option that was in use by the duplicate and test to see if the original installation works.
If that doesn’t help, good old “uninstall and install again” is recommended.
