Windows 10 has an internal image-to-text converter

If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to convert an image to text, we’re in a hurry to inform you that Windows 10 offers this without any additional software.

OCR is an abbreviation of various techniques for the optical recognition of characters in an image file. OCR is typically designed to recognize text in a scanned document, which can be useful for digitizing library resources as well as making it easier to read data from handwritten forms. Probably not everyone knows that such a function also exists in Windows 10, and to use it we do not need anything more than a Windows search tool and a built-in screenshot application – Snip and Sketch.

How can this be done?

First of all, make sure that the image you want to convert is displayed on the screen. Then click the Search button next to the Start Menu. If you cannot see it, activate it by right-clicking on the taskbar.

Another thing requires us to select the search option with the screenshot on the right and use the selection tool to draw a frame around the text we want to convert. The screenshot is sent to Bing for analysis and then displayed as raw text, ready to be copied.

Note – if we do not see the option to search using the screenshot, it is due to the fact that the mentioned function is being tested and it is available only to selected users. However, the solution should reach everyone soon.
