A recent update to Windows 10 and 11 caused an unknown number of users blue screen of death. It is not known why. There is no solution available yet, but one of the updates sometimes uninstalls itself to fix the problem.
Microsoft warns on a support page for the problem. That arose shortly after the release of a preview version of Windows 11, KB5029351and Windows 10, KB5029331. Those are cumulative updates and not security updates like those that were shipped during Patch Tuesday earlier this month. Among other things, the update fixed issues in the Search app and previewed a new backup tool.
In the two versions of the operating system, an unknown number of users will see a blue screen of death. It is not known how large the group of users where this occurs, but it seems to be mainly users of MSI motherboards. They see the error code 0x0000005D, the bug UNSUPPORTED_PROCESSOR.
Microsoft has not yet resolved or mitigated the issue. The company says it is still investigating the reports and calls on users to report them via the Feedback app. In some cases, the update would uninstall itself automatically. At least that would happen on Windows 11, after the user restarts the device a number of times.
