Microsoft has begun investigating the appearance of the “blue screen of death” problem in Windows 10 and 11 with a message indicating processor incompatibility.
Affected users indicated that the problem began to appear after recent updates, even though the system was installed on computers with supported processors.
The problem causes the operating system to crash, and the Blue Screen of Death, referred to as BSOD, appears with the message “UNSUPPORTED_PROCESSOR” indicating processor incompatibility.
Microsoft acknowledged the issue and encouraged users to submit feedback on the issue through the Feedback Hub app.
Microsoft said that the reports it received about the problem reached it after installing the KB5029331 and KB5029351 updates that were released in August, then restarting the devices, and Microsoft tried to solve the problem by removing the KB5029331 update to allow Windows to run as expected.
It is clear from user posts in Microsoft’s feedback application that the problem is mainly found on MSI motherboards that work with Intel 600 and 700 series processors, and it is found relatively less on motherboards from other companies such as Asus and Gigabyte.
Gigabyte advised users to temporarily solve the problem by rolling back the BIOS to a previous version, and removing updates KB5029351 from Windows 11 and KB5029331 from Windows 10.
Microsoft has not yet reached the causes of the problem that led to the collapse of the Windows system after the recent updates.
