Shoemakers, watchmakers, telephone operators are becoming unnecessary
Wind turbine technicians and nurses will be the most sought after professions in the next 10 years. Practitioners of these positions will increase by 68.2 and 52.2% respectively by 2030.
This is predicted by the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the SAU. According to him, between 2020 and 2030, 11.9 million new jobs will be created, with an overall growth rate of 7.7%.
Wind turbine technicians will increase the most in this period. In numerical terms, however, these are only 4,700 specialists. The third place is occupied by the installers of solar panels with a growth of 52.1%, or 6100 people. The rapid growth is due to the demand for renewable energy.
In numbers, however, the number of personal medical assistants will increase the most – by 1.130 million more. Nurses will increase by 114.9 thousand, and managers of medical and health services – by 139.6 thousand. A total of nine of the 20 fastest growing jobs are in healthcare or related fields, as the largest generation – people born between 1946 and 1964 are already aging and chronic conditions are increasing. Personal assistants will represent more than 1 million new jobs over the next decade – almost 10% of all. However, these workers are also the lowest paid on the list (see table).
Computer and math jobs will also be high.
On the other hand, eight of the top 20 declining occupations are related to office and administrative support. At the same time, it is currently the largest category of jobs in the United States. Employment in the production of goods and services and in sales also declined.
Automation is the main reason for the decline in demand in most professions. For example, software that automatically converts audio to text will reduce the need for typewriters. It is the typists who are in the first place in the ranking – they will decrease by 36%, or 16.3 thousand people. The same goes for watchmakers, shoemakers, telephone operators.
Most of the fastest-declining workers have lower wages, with the exception of nuclear power plant operators, who earn more than $ 100,000 a year. However, their employment will fall by 33% over the next 10 years, to 1,800 people. The reason is that no new nuclear power plants have been discovered since the 1990s, and nuclear energy faces stiff competition from renewable energy sources.
