wind, hail, rain… what does Météo France predict?

It is a good part of France which was placed in orange vigilance with the storms this Saturday by Météo France.

Among the departments concerned by this alert, all those of Lorraine and Franche-Comté. With considerable precision: if the level has been raised since this morning, it is at the end of the evening, or even at the beginning of the night that the storms should arrive at our place.

Update at 9 p.m.

It is in Saône-et-Loire and Côte-d’Or that for the moment the storms are the most violent. In some areas (Autun, Mâcon, Charolais, south-east of the Côte-d’Or) intense precipitation is observed with probable hail locally, as well as strong electrical activity (lightning).

These storms are moving up towards Dijon while others are moving from Creuse and Allier towards Nièvre and Saône-et-Loire and could be violent when they hit southern Burgundy during evening.

Elsewhere, apart from a few thunderstorms in the west of the Marne (wind of 72 km/h was recorded at Blesmes in the south of Aisne and 64 km/h at Esternay) as well as in the Colmar sector, the situation is calm for the moment.

In the evening, thunderstorms multiply in Burgundy, Aube and Haute-Marne to the Vosges department. A few storms may also affect the Marne and the Ardennes.

For Franche-Comté, Alsace and northern Lorraine, even if some local thunderstorms are possible in the evening, the degradation will generally be later, rather after midnight.

Even for the places affected from the start of the evening, other stormy episodes may occur until the end of the night from Sunday to Monday.

Update at 6 p.m.

In its latest forecast bulletin, Météo France announces the imminent arrival (around 7 p.m.) of the disturbance in the departments of Marne and Aube. A few storms broke out on the peaks of the Jura relief and others began to affect the extreme south of the Saône-et-Loire with significant electrical activity, a few hailstorms and heavy rains.

The weather remains dry, sunny and hot in the rest of the regions for now, but it should quickly deteriorate in the evening.

A new stormy episode will begin in Burgundy and Champagne, then spread towards Franche-Comté and Lorraine in the first part of the night from Saturday to Sunday. Alsace is concerned later, from midnight.

Heavy rain, gusts of wind and hail

These storms can be violent, accompanied by hailstorms of locally large size (diameter of hailstones that can reach 2 to 5cm in places), strong gusts winds often between 80 and 100 km/h, locally around 110 km/h. Heavy rainfall is also expected: up to 20 to 40 mm, locally 50 mm in less than an hour under a marked storm cell, or following the passage of several stormy foci. Electrical activity is also expected to be marked.

Even if the risk of violent phenomena concerns all the regions of the North-East, Burgundy Franche-Comté as well as the south of Champagne-Ardenne and the south of Lorraine seem to be the most exposed to this risk from the evening to the middle of night from Saturday to Sunday.

The episode will end no later than Sunday morning with the evacuation of the strongest storms by the Benelux, German and Swiss borders.

In the west of France, such as Rouen or Tours, some flooding and damage due to large hailstones are reported.
