Several sponsorship posters have gone up overnight and work is now being done diligently on Natrudstilen in the morning hours. The slopes are also being prepared again in an attempt to remove the ice cover that has settled.
The weather forecast reports strong winds during the morning hours. The women’s sprint was supposed to start at 9.45, but has now been postponed to 11.30.
– It is very windy. There is a lot of wind, backpacks are flying off and advertising signs are falling down. We have also struggled with slightly slippery slopes. The trails are being worked on well now, so I think we will be good enough, says Tobias Lund, events manager at the Norwegian Ski Association.
– Now it is mainly about the safety of athletes. These advertising tapes should not get in the way, and then we choose to delay the start a little when we see that it is calm, he said.
Monitor challenging shooting conditions
The men’s race has been moved to 13.50, and the organizer feels confident that both sprints can be completed then.
– How has it been for the jury in the morning hours?
– It has been a bit hectic. When you arrive at the stadium and see advertising signs flying away, you are a little worried about how the day will turn out. But we have also assessed the shooting range, considering the wind conditions there, and we are getting good feedback that it should be possible to hold a shooting competition, says Tobias Lund answer
– It is absolutely right to delay when it is windy like this, says NRK expert, Ola Lunde.
He remembers several races where the wind caused problems.
– Safety is extremely important, both in the forest and within the range. But even if it becomes safe later, the wind may not disappear, and the stand will have very challenging conditions, Lunde believes.
The entire Norwegian biathlon elite is at Sjusjøen. Among other things, the recruited boys will fight for one place for the World Cup on the men’s side, and there is competition for three places on the women’s side for the opening of the World Cup in Kontiolahti. The French biathlon masters and the Italian stars also come up for a start.
- You can watch the beginning of the season on NRK1 and NRK TV.
