Gregoria Mariska Tunjung successfully advanced to the knockout phase of the badminton women’s singles round of 16 Tokyo 2020 Olympics. This certainty was obtained after defeating the Belgian representative, Lianne Tan with a score of 21-11, 21-17.

Playing at Musashino Forest Sport Plaza, Wednesday (28/7/2021), Gregoria got tough resistance from Lianne Tan. The score was as strong as 6-6, but Gregoria managed to close the interval with an 11-6 advantage.

Gregoria continued to dominate in the first game. He immediately went away with a score of 16-8, then became 19-10, before closing with a score of 21-11.

At the second gym, Gregoria immediately step on the gas and lead 5-2, then lead 9-5 and close the second interval with the same score, 11-6.

Like the first game, Gregoria immediately walked away after the interval with a 17-10 lead. But Lianne Tan tried to catch up by adding three consecutive points, to 13-17.

When the score was 18-14, Gregoria had received treatment after his knee was injured. Lianne Tan seemed to take advantage of Gregoria’s condition, managing to close the gap to 16-19.

But finally Gregoria managed to close the match with a score of 21-17, closed with a smash to the left side of Lianne Tan. The game ended in 42 minutes.

With this result, Gregoria managed to become the winner of Group M with two wins. He is entitled to one place to the knockout phase.
