Five-time singles winner Venus Williams has reached the round of 16 in the Wimbledon mixed competition.
Alongside her British partner Jamie Murray, the 42-year-old defeated Michael Venus (Australia) and Alicja Rosolska (Poland) 6:3, 6:7 (3:7), 6:3 in their opening match. In the round of the best 16, the two now meet the duo Jonny O’Mara/Alicia Barnett from Great Britain.
Williams makes a comeback after a break
After a break of almost a year, Williams is currently making her comeback in professional tennis, but only competes in mixed doubles with a wildcard. Her partner is the brother of two-time Olympic champion Andy Murray and has already won the mixed competition twice.
Williams’ sister Serena, who is two years younger, also made her comeback in singles a few days ago after a long break. However, the 23-time Grand Slam winner failed in the first round at the French Harmony Tan.
