Willy Wonka Experience Promises Sweets and Fantasy, Delivers Disappointment: Visitors Feel Scammed and Call Police

Organizers of the original event in Scotland promised visitors an experience full of sweets and fantasy, based on the Willy Wonka films and Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory books. Instead, parents and their children were disappointed for a lot of money: exhausted actors, hardly any decorations and two jelly beans per person for consumption.

The visitors felt that way scammed that they called the police. The event sparked reactions from all over the world. Many people shared the visitors’ anger, but others saw the humor in the desolation of the Experience. This also applies to the organizers of this new edition in the United States.

‘Extraordinary experience’

On the website where visitors can buy tickets for the American version, it is clear that the event is intended for people who could also laugh about the failure in Glasgow. “This extraordinary experience, set in a dreary warehouse in downtown Los Angeles, takes participants on an immersive adventure,” the organization wrote.

For 44 dollars (41 euros), visitors are promised ‘an abundance of enchanting attractions’, including two jelly beans and an interview and meet & greet with Kirsty Paterson. She is the actress who played a pitiful Oompa Loompa in Glasgow and became world famous in that role.

Paterson told the British newspaper The Guardian that she never thought that the Willy Wonka Experience would have a sequel: “I didn’t expect to end up in the US and that it would become so big. The US is on a different level,” says Paterson. “I’ve never been to America.”
